The idea for Puratap was born from the experience of an Adelaide local in the early 1990s. Dissatisfied with the taste and quality of the tap water in his family home, he began to look for an under-sink water filter. To better meet the needs of the Adelaide market, he imported higher quality water filters and sold them to other Adelaide residents with a better warranty and options for ongoing maintenance. However it did not take long to discover that these imported water filters were simply not strong enough to cope with the unique Australian water conditions. After much research, the solution became clear. The only way to make a unit to withstand Australian conditions was to design and manufacture it right here in Adelaide. So that's what he did, and Puratap was formed in September 1996.
Today, Puratap is Australia's leading water filter company, servicing over 270,000 customers in the Adelaide metropolitan area alone. Over the past 20 years, Puratap has become a household name with many South Australians refusing to drink anything else - It's not a filter tap it's a Puratap!
This proud brand association has driven the team at Puratap to always strive to be the best in water purification through innovative thinking and design. By designing, manufacturing and testing our unit here in Adelaide, Puratap has total control of the quality. Our head office continues to be based in Adelaide (at Stepney) and Puratap's team consists of a diverse range of South Australians. Puratap continues to Choose SA as its base and with some new projects in the works, will have long future in supporting jobs and growth in SA.
